Aim of program/What is your program: Eye and Ear Health
These services include.
– Health Promotional activities.
– Co-ordination of referral pathways
– Screenings where appropriate.
– Ensure that all patients attend their appointments.
– Increase the rates of patients attending their appointments.
– Is to increase awareness and knowledge of ear health and Eye Health by providing regular screening clinics and education in a culturally appropriate manner.
Ear Health
Aim of program:
To improve hearing health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
within the Durri ACMS footprint. The Eye/Ear Health program is part of a care delivery service that aims at early prevention in getting hearing checks and Eyes regular, and to decrease the risk of Otitis Media by early intervention in ear diseases and improves the quality of Hearing to our patients. Australian Hearing Clinic are carried out at Durri for children above 4 years of age to adults, children under the age of 4 and those with special needs are seen at the Port Macquarie Centre.
Eye Health
The Optometrist provides eye care and testing, and management of visual conditions to provide eye health care to our Aboriginal Torres Strait Island patients within the Durri ACMS footprint. The AHW/P coordinates clinics ensuring our Patients attend their appointments and follow-ups and referrals to specialists if needed. The Optometrists after examination may prescribe glasses or lenses to correct some visual problems, they may advise the Aboriginal Health Worker/Practitioner on eye health education and medical terminology if the patient do not understand. Eye Health program is trying to prevent early eye disease in our patients and improve the quality of life to our patients. The Optometrist visits one day and a half day clinic once a month at Durri ACMS and one day per month at Darrimba Maarra Health Outpost. The Optometrist specialises in eye care and regularly examine our patients’ eyes and prescribe glasses or lenses provide spectacles.
